This small selection of work has been inspired by Adrian Stokes (1902 -1972) series of still life paintings of bottles and jars, called The Last Eleven.
He painted them between September - December 1972 in the last days of his life. As the bottles and jars emerge from a mysterious background, disappearing and reappearing, they speak of a liminal
space, of transitions and the ephemeral.
Flowers too, can represent the ephemeral. In my garden I find much inspiration as plants appear mysteriously from the greenery , partly disappear in the shade and edges disappear fading into the light.
