From the harmonious Heartlands of Scotland and the musical metropolis of Melbourne, Australia, Good Guy Hank bring all of the heartbreak, joy and everything in-between with soulful vocals, country feel, lightning mandolin, fiddle and banjo, virtuosic trumpet playing and three part harmonies galore! Having formed after a spontaneous jam at the world famous music pub The Taybank in Dunkeld, Scotland in 2019 the trio initially bonded over their shared love of Hank Williams, hence ‘Good Guy Hank’. However it wasn’t long before their sound expanded when Donny, Theo and Pepi began to introduce their own musical influences and songwriting into the group.
Soon the band had morphed into its own unique country, bluegrass, americana and soul fusion with influences ranging from Caleb Klauder, Calexico, The Stray Birds, Lucinda Williams, Drive By Truckers to Gillian Welsh and Nathaniel Rateliff.
After self releasing their EP (All The Love You Need) and playing shows throughout the UK and festivals including the La Roche Bluegrass Festival, Green Parrot in Cologne and Ramblin’ Roots in Utrecht as a trio, it was a performance at Arisaig Americana Festival with special guests James Mackintosh (drums) and Ben Harrison (banjo, trumpet) that cemented the sound that they were looking for. It was decided shortly after that the special ingredients for the album were complete and the band set about the initial recording at T-pot studio in Perthshire. Silver Lining, the final track and album title was released on July 3rd to rave reviews, a UK tour and immediate BBC, RRR and Celtic Radio play. The legendary Iain Anderson show made Silver Lining its featured album of the week and the band has continued to tour the UK/EU as well as Australia. This alternative Americana outfit will have you dancing, singing and crying (tears of joy!) all in the one performance.

Joining Good Guy Hank on the night is BC-born folk and Americana songwriter Sarah Jane Scouten, paying respects to the 60s and 70s country songwriters who shaped her — Willie Nelson, John Prine and Bobby Gentry among them. Her sound weaves in elements of the British folk revival, with a continuous thread running back to her roots in bluegrass and old-time music.
After a transformative four years training as a herbalist in southwest Scotland, Sarah Jane has returned with her fifth album, Turned to Gold — a record that shows a new depth and solidity in her songwriting. Destined to be your next favourite road trip album, it's the perfect complement to an evening of heartfelt Americana at Birnam Arts.
