In 2021, Birnam Arts launched our first Studio-Access Artist Residency programme with the first of two pilot projects, offering the opportunity to Scottish-based artists to develop their practice in our dedicated studio spaces.
We are delighted to offer the second of these pilot projects for the next Studio Access Residency, to be taken during February-March 2022.
As we launch the new project, we spoke with the 2021 recipient, Rowan Lear, on her thoughts about her time at Birnam Arts earlier this year.
As an artist and writer who works in a multitude of materials, and doesn’t have a studio base, the Residency allowed Rowan to develop a number of important aspects of her practice.
“The Residency gave me the space to think as well as to make. As an artist who tends to work on site and in different contexts, it was such a rare and exciting opportunity to dwell in a studio environment for a limited period of time. The residency helped me concentrate my thoughts and bring together ideas which had been brewing for some time, around ecology, kinship and vegetal life.
“I felt supported and cared for by the Birnam Arts team. And through meeting other artists and people in the local area, I have grown the potential of longer-term connections and future projects in Perthshire.”
Rowan has certainly benefitted from applying for the 2021 Residency. We will be in touch with Rowan again in 2022, to hear of her next projects.
We encourage artists across Scotland to read the application package. The application form is available online, and the deadline is 5th January 2022.
A fantastic opportunity to support Birnam Arts and dedicate a space to loved ones or shine a light on your business.
