Short Film: What's Up With The Sky?
The sun rises happily over the horizon and is welcomed by the most beautiful landscape. The humans also wake up and do what they always do: cut down trees, construct aimlessly and pollute without shame. Their ideas and actions, usually very disrespectful to the planet, are putting in jeopardy the whole environment. What they do not realise, is that whatever they do, it will affect them sooner or later. However, the cosmos is not that patient…
Feature Film: Four Souls of the Coyote is a visually striking animated film that weaves Native American creation myths with a modern story about protecting the environment. The film begins with a group of people protesting against an oil pipeline threatening their land. It then shifts to a mystical retelling of how the world was created, showing the deep connection between humans and nature.
Critics have praised its unique mix of 2D and 3D animation and its timely message about living in harmony with the Earth. Wendy Ide from ScreenDaily called it “a lovely and poignant animated environmental parable built on Native American mythology.” Fabien Lemercier of Cineuropa described it as “both simple and subtly sophisticated” in story and visuals.
The film won the Jury Award at the Annecy International Animation Festival and the Golden Goblet for Best Animation at Shanghai. It was also Hungary’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars.
Four Souls of the Coyote is part of our Adventures in Animation programme celebrating bold animated storytelling.
Rotten Tomatoes: The film holds a 100% critic score and a 77% audience score. One viewer described it as “visually exciting, beautiful storytelling,” while another called it “a beautiful movie! Well told and visually stunning.”
