The Dark Carnival: Unplugged

Description:

The Dark Carnival: Unplugged
Vanishing Point
Thursday 30th May 8pm
£12/£10/£5 U26s

Who’d have thought, that when we died, we didn’t die completely?
Our consciousness goes on a bit. It lingers on, discreetly.

THE DARK CARNIVAL: UNPLUGGED is an informal, rousing music and theatre show: with songs, storytelling and a free (though not compulsory!) glass of whisky for everyone, it tells the story of newcomers to the afterlife who are surprised to discover that death is not actually the end. Incredulous at their continuity, they form their own necropolitan community where every night is party night.
But a mysterious event throws the lives of the dead into uncertainty - when news reaches the cemetery, an underground revolution begins, led by the stoical Mrs Mark and her band of necropolitans.

Based on the recent five-star theatre spectacular The Dark Carnival, this new ‘unplugged’ version features Biff Smith (lead singer of A New International  on acoustic guitar and narrator Robert Jack telling the story of the residents of Dickinsons Brae cemetery - a love story that spans life and death and a celebratory, heart-warming night out.
Inspired by Weimar cabaret, danse macabre, Kurt Weill and Lionel Bart, the songs find themselves in a musical space somewhere in between Leonard Cohen and The Muppets.

Sponsored by The Famous Grouse

Conceived, written and directed by Matthew Lenton
Songs and lyrics and music by Biff Smith
Created by Vanishing Point

… each and everyone sings out for the great refusal, and for the joy of life itself. ***** THE HERALD
