A Castle of Stone and Sea

Description:

A Castle of Stone and Sea - The Life, Songs and Stories of a 19th-century Breton Woman
Marthe Vassallo
Saturday 27th October
7.30pm
£10/£8/£5 U26s

One of Brittany’s most acclaimed traditional voices, Marthe Vassallo, retraces the life, song and personality of an ‘obscure’ 19th century woman, Maryvonne Le Flem, via a treasure trove of documents.

This is a story of poverty, pride and mysterious islands, celebrating the power of speech and song: Maryvonne never knew how to read and lived a thankless life of poverty, yet what is striking about her is her love of expression and her strength of body and mind… share in Marthe’s emotions and awe of this remarkable woman.
