Dean Dunbar – Blind and Dangerous… a Stand Up Paddler that we all should know, paddling for only 4 years, he has completed some incredible distance paddles… SUP Magazine

For Blairgowrie based Dean Dunbar, blindness is not an unsurmountable obstacle in his life - in many ways it’s opened the way to extraordinary opportunities for him, including the topic of his talk here tonight – a stand up paddle to St Kilda - 70km over 2 days, huge waves, a very scary night on a rock, and the fulfilment of a 25 year dream for Dean!

Over the past 20 years he’s participated in over 100 activities and challenges around the world, including adventure racing and bungee jumping out of a helicopter, and he’s set over 25 world firsts in a variety of extreme sports. Outdoor activities are obviously more challenging for Dean and there are occasions when he is 100% reliant on his team member but, with the skills and senses he’s developed from his visual impairment, the tables are also sometimes turned to his advantage.

Patrick Winterton is an adventurer and sports commentator from Oban.  As well as being a former Winter Olympian and an elite adventure racer, Patrick has made a name for himself as being the first person to sea kayak from Scotland to the Faroe Islands. From being an impulsive mini adventurer, he’s learnt to appreciate that it’s the preparation, commitment and the resulting friendships that make a major expedition worth doing.
