The Dime Notes

Description:

Saturday 10th June, 8pm
£12/£10/£5 U26s
New Orleans Jazz

THE DIME NOTES dig back into the blues-drenched sounds of clarinet-driven 1920’s New Orleans jazz, unearthing a repertoire of stomps, blues, and forgotten gems of the era from musicians such as Johnny Dodds, Jelly Roll Morton and Red Nichols.

The Dime Notes Saturday 10th June 8pm New Orleans Jazz at Birnam Arts

Fronted by Chris Barber’s long-time clarinettist David Horniblow, an established figure on the London jazz scene, and American pianist Andrew Oliver - a recent arrival to the UK - the band is anchored by the unstoppable pulse of London’s finest rhythm guitarist Dave Kelbie.  The bass chair is occupied by native Londoner Tom Wheatley, in demand across many genre boundaries with his huge sound and stylistic versatility and Australian born, Paris-based bassist Sebastien Girardot, well known across the international scene for his swing and energetic vibe.

The Dime Notes present a fresh take on a timeless style, emphasizing the propulsive grooves and sultry melodies which made early jazz revolutionary, controversial, and wildly popular.

"London’s most stylish vintage jazz band delivered an intoxicating cocktail of early jazz, stomp and swing." Daily Echo
